Our members come from diverse professional backgrounds and work in a variety of settings, including residential rehabilitation, primary care, community drug and alcohol services, and criminal justice environments.  We offer membership for people who are employed in the public sector, the private sector and charities.

Registration body options 

We are a voluntary registration body for the addictions sector. Our Practitioner, Advanced Practitioner and Organisational membership levels require adherence to our Standards of Conduct and Ethics, serving as a quality mark for those who wish to demonstrate their commitment to high standards, professional quality, and the protection of the public.

Practitioner Members are required to work, train or volunteer in the addiction sector and agree to adhere to our Standards of Conduct and Ethics, evidencing commitment to good quality practice to the public and organisations. Practitioner Members appear on the Practitioner Directory, use our logo on business cards, letterheads and online profiles, and receive complimentary Premium CPD Membership.

Benefits include:  

  • Free Premium CPD Membership offering 15 hours of online continuing professional development per year
  • Access to apply for our accreditation levels
  • Entry in our online directory of practitioners
  • Evidence of your commitment to our Standards of Conduct and Ethics

Cost

Individual membership costs £85 per annum. A reduced rate of £40 is available to those who are retired, students or working on an unpaid basis.

Advanced Practitioner Members are required to work, train or volunteer in the addiction sector and agree to adhere to our Standards of Conduct and Ethics.

Practitioner Members confirm a commitment to ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) by agreeing to our Standards of Conduct and Ethics. Advanced Practitioner Members make a further commitment to the type and amount of CPD they take part in, together with an agreement to be audited.  Advanced Practitioner Members have access to a dedicated page on the Practitioner Directory, use our logo on business cards, letterheads and online profiles, and receive complimentary Premium CPD Membership.

Benefits include:

As an Advanced Practitioner Member you will receive additional benefits including:  

  • Your own page on the AP Practitioner Directory detailing qualifications, experience, and approach
  • You are able to use the designatory letters ‘AP APM’

To become an Advanced Practitioner Member, you must:

  • Currently be in practice or volunteering in the addictions field
  • Agree to work to our Standards of Conduct and Ethics
  • Keep your knowledge and skills up-to-date by adhering to Advanced Practitioner Membership continuing professional development (CPD) guidelines
  • To provide evidence of your CPD for audit if asked to do so

Cost

Advanced Practitioner membership costs £100 per annum. A reduced rate of £55 is available to those who are retired or working on an unpaid basis. 

When you become an Advanced Practitioner Member, and when you renew your membership, we'll ask you to agree to the following terms and conditions:

'I confirm and agree that I will undertake and record continuing professional development (CPD) in line with AP’s requirements and will abide by and fully cooperate with AP’s CPD audit procedure.’

Provider Affiliate Membership

Provider affiliation is open to organisations providing services to people with addiction problems or to those affected by someone else's addiction.

Academic Affiliate Membership

Academic affiliation is open to institutions providing formal qualifications for people working in the alcohol and other drugs field.

Benefits

  • Associate membership for relevant staff and students. Student membership is valid for 12 months after graduation
  • Access to AP members only professional qualifications. Our courses are certified by our Assessment Board
  • Premium CPD Membership (15 hours of CPD per year) for all AP Academic Associate staff and student members
  • Reduced rates on training and events
  • Public assurance that you committed to following the Standards of Conduct and Ethics
  • Ongoing up-to-date information and support regarding learning and development
