Addictions Counsellor

About me and my practice

It’s important to find the right counsellor or therapist to work with, as it can be a difficult, yet life changing experience. I’m calm, compassionate, and non-judgemental with experience of using a variety of counselling techniques to deliver a tailored treatment package according to individual needs. I’ve helped people overcome a wide range of harmful coping mechanisms (alcohol, gambling, drugs, overeating etc) as well as depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement & loss, and relationship problems.

My role will be to help you discover the solution within yourself and establish effective coping mechanisms. Using a combination of therapies, I work with a client centred approach to identify solutions that lie undiscovered within you. My role is to break down the barriers and blockages that stop you from personal growth and change. I also use other techniques to find the root cause of issue(s), tailoring treatment to your individual needs, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Systemic Family Therapy, Relapse Prevention.

I work to create a connection and come alongside you to help you process challenging and sometimes uncomfortable feelings. I do this by creating a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship which is essential to help you work through issues. Jargon Buster Client Centered Therapy, or Person-Centered Therapy, is a non-directive approach to talk therapy. It requires the client to actively take the reins during each therapy session, while the therapist acts mainly as a guide or a source of support for the client. Motivational Interviewing is a counseling approach designed to individuals resolve uncertainty about their issue and support efforts to change. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. Dialectical behaviour therapy is a type of talking therapy. Its based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), but its specially adapted for people who feel emotions very intensely. Systemic Family Therapy Understanding the effect of relationships in our family and understanding how it affects relationships with people in our lives now. Relapse prevention (RP) is a cognitive– behavioural approach with the goal of identifying and addressing high-risk situations for relapse and assisting individuals in maintaining desired behavioural changes.

I am not currently taking on any new clients.
