Addictions Specialist

About me and my practice

I qualified as an addiction therapist in 2007 while working in the NHS Centre of Excellence Leeds Addiction Unit. My background includes working with child bearing drug users, safeguarding, criminal justice and over the past 6 years I have specialised in working with those with co-occurring mental illness alongside an addiction problem. I now run my own practice in York. I offer evidence based addiction therapies including: Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Social Behaviour and Network Therapy (SBNT) and Cognitive Behavioural Coping Skills (CBCS).

Building a therapeutic alliance is at the heart of my approach, believing that relational and interpersonal experience is the foundation of any successful behaviour change.

Outline of offer

I offer 1:1 psychosocial interventions to help people reach their goal and resolve their addiction problems in the form of:

  • Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)
  • Social Behaviour & Network Therapy (SBNT)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy informed interventions (CBT)

I encourage involvement of family and friends if appropriate, and facilitate sessions involving significant others.

I work from central York and have a welcoming consultation room for face to face sessions but equally happy to provide services over zoom.

I design bespoke training packages for organisations including evidence based addiction therapy and suicide awareness / assessment / responses. This service can be provided nationally and internationally.

Experience

I have over 20 years of clinical experience in the NHS. I am an advocate of video recorded practice for supervision purposes.
I have many years experience in providing clinical supervision for those working in the addiction field.
I have experience of writing higher education qualifications and teaching at University level as a visiting lecturer and as a programme lead.
